The Shiva lingam is five faced and of the deity it is made of black stone and an inscription of the south wall of the temple shows that the idol was established and its pratistha bestowal of life was performed by the then Maharana Raimal ji (1473-1509) . The west wars face is that of Lord Brahma. Northward is that of Lord Vishnu, Eastward is of Lord Surya the Son god, southward is face of Rudra and the upraised top is Shiva lingam, which is an embodiment of Sadashiva with Amba his consort.
Mewada Puran was described in Eklingji Mahatmya. The original of Mewada Brahmin Samaj described briefly in “Mewad Puran”. There are 25 chapters in Mewada Puran, in which the types of Mewada Brahmin Community, their ishtdev, gotra etc referred in Mewad Puran. Whatever we have heard a story about the importance of Pushdant Eklingji and the origin of Mewad from Lord Shanker is as under.
Once upon a time with the intention to make snakes clean and pions, on the bank of Patalganga Narad muni came to snake leader Anant, Vasuki, Takshak. Anant Nag prayed muni and felicitated him. The conversation is going on between them, suddenly Takshak Nag claims that there is no one fearless accept him. Narad muni became unhappy with his statement and given curse to him that Nagvansh will perish in fire. With this curse the entire nag community became miserable and painfull, and for safeguards of this community, they have requested him to withdraw curse. Naradji became kind and insturcted pray and worship to Lord Shanker to save from this curse. He has also suggested that there is a place, its name is Mewad (Medpat) in Bharat Khand where many pilgramages and also having a place of Eklingji, they have to visit there and to pray. After this suggestion Vasuki-Prabuti nag started pray at Mewad’s Chitrakut-Trikut there they have started to pray.
